What Is Forró?

Forró is a family of Brazilian music and dance genres originating in the northeastern state of Pernambuco. The most popular dance style, Universitário, is a partner dance characterised by close connection, syncopated footwork and playful improvisation.

The music is typically played by accordion, zabumba drum and triangle, giving it a distinctive lively sound. The dance ranges from slow, sensual close-hold interpretations to fast, energetic sequences.
