Why We Built This
Finding a dance class in London shouldn't be this hard. The city has hundreds of studios — from intimate community spaces in Hackney to established academies in South Kensington — but the information is scattered across outdated directories, social media profiles and word of mouth. We spent too many hours tracking down class times, trying to figure out which studios were still open, and searching for places that taught the specific styles we were after.
Dance Studio London started as a personal spreadsheet. We kept adding studios as we visited or heard about them, noting the styles they offered, the areas they served, what the vibe was like. At some point it made more sense to turn it into something shareable.
The directory is independent — we're not affiliated with any studio, don't take payments for listings, and try to keep the information as accurate and up to date as we can.
The People Behind It
Mónica R.
Research & Dance Styles
Mónica trained in contemporary and flamenco in Seville before moving to London in her mid-twenties. She's spent the better part of a decade working her way through the city's dance community — taking classes, attending performances, and building up an unusually thorough knowledge of what's on offer and where. She's behind most of the style descriptions and studio research on this site.
Frank O.
Technical & Streetdance
Frank came to London from Lagos via Manchester, where he first got serious about street dance and house. He's been part of London's urban dance scene for years — competing, teaching occasional workshops, and knowing most of the relevant studios personally. He handles the technical side of this project and keeps the urban and Afro-dance sections of the directory current.
What's in the Directory
We focus on studios that offer regular scheduled classes — not one-off events or private hire only. Each listing includes the styles on offer, the area of London, and a link to the studio's own website for up-to-date timetables.
The dance styles section covers over 60 styles taught in London, with background on each form, what to expect as a beginner, and which studios specialise in it.
If you notice something that's out of date or a studio we've missed, you can suggest an update — we genuinely appreciate it.
